Members of Texarkana Sunrise Rotary Club are aware of Assistant District Governor Ralph Waits' passion for stargazing. On January 20th, 2019, Ralph Waits, and his daughter, Katie Shonkwiler set up telescopes to view an astronomical rarity, the Super Blood Wolf Moon Lunar Eclipse. For those not in the know, a super blood moon is the phenomenon where the moon appears reddish in color and particularly large and bright during a total lunar eclipse. The lunar eclipse occurs because the moon passes into the Earth's shadow. Finally, a wolf moon is the first full moon of the year. People from all over the United States turned their eyes skyward on January 20th, 2019 for a glimpse of this spectacle and those who did were not disappointed. #SuperBloodWolfMoon2019 #TexarkanaSunriseRotary #AtronomyIsFun

Growing Texarkana Sunrise Rotary Club and Local Scouting Movement

Tyler Joyce, Paraprofessional Field Executive, BSA Caddo Council, became the newest member of Texarkana Sunrise Rotary Club on December 19, 2018. He is pictured with current Texarkana Sunrise Rotary President Steve Collier. Tyler was instrumental in setting up Sunrise Rotary with Nash Elementary School to start a Cub Scout Pack. Tyler will be an asset to Sunrise.

After completing all BSA requirements for his Eagle rank, and following an adult error scheduling his board of review, this Boy Scout turned 18-years old. His adult leaders misinformed the scout, by telling him he was no longer eligible for his Eagle rank.

Recently, Tyler Joyce submitted his application to the national office a Belated Eagle Scout Request. A group of national level volunteers reviewed the records and documentation, and certified that our Caddo Area Council could convene a board of review.
Our Caddo Area Council field executive and Pack 16 Den Leader participated in an Eagle Board of Review, and he passed.
Congratulations to our newest Eagle Scout, Tyler Joyce. Well Done!
